I was at a dealer today getting a quote for a B7800 and he was selling me with the tractor a 72" Bush Hog Squealer rotary cutter SQ720.
Does anyone have experience or reccomendations with this combination. My application will be mowing 14 acres of rolling field grass and occasional woods clearing of small trees and brambles.

To big a mower for only 22 pto hp.
Would go larger than a 5ft.
In my actual experience I had a 45 hp tractor with a 72" and the grass under our pecan trees would drag it down untill I had to creep along. I switched to a 60" and could mow the 20 acres faster because I could keep my ground speed up.
Bigger ain't better--- you and the tractor will be stressed. ....

I believe teh book recommends a 4' brush mower, but with a roughly 5' track, I opted for a little more width.
My 5' Bushhog Razorback seems to be about right if not a bit too large for the B7800. I could do for a few more Hp sometimes, but at least with teh hydrostatic, you can just lift a little when the rpm drops.
I use it to mow about 6 AC of pasture about once / month. The tall, pasture grass isn't the issue, its teh few areas with low thick stuff more like a lawn than bog it down. Keeping the rear higher than the front seems to help some as well.
Don't go any bigger, and if you intend to clear really high stuff, get a 48" or 54" if one exists.

Convetional wisdom is that you need about 5hp for each foot of width, however that is an average.
You will also have weight issues to contend with.
We had a little MF 22'ish hp Yanmar a number of years back and we used an old 5' rotary on it. If the grass was very heavy you went VERY slowly. Likewise when you had to lift the mower up, slowly was the word, a sudden increase in speed produced a wheelie until the tailwheel met the ground again.
It would however run a 6' finish mower OK, but again in long grass you werent going very fast either.
When I read the words "rolling fields" I think you maybe 'challenged' cutting uphill in long grass on a hot humid summer day.

I have a B7800 with an SQ720. Three years of use in horse pastures, and clearing out shrubs, brush. No problems and always enough power. 72" allows easier edge trimming, especially if you have a FEL. Good luck. ....

I use a 5 footer on my 7800 and it works great. I mowed a field for my brother in law and the grass was thick and around 4 foot high. I had to go to low range and creep along. I wouuld say it depends on how often you are going to cut the field. If you are going to cut it about once or twice a month I would go for the 72" but if you are only going to cut it 3 or 4 times a year, then go smaller. ....
